    Homeschool Zest:

Ways to Add More Fun to

    Your Children’s School Days

Homeschool children do not necessarily leap toward their studies with enthusiasm despite what others may think. Taking steps towards adding more fun to your children's day will certainly help improve your children's attitudes. Here are four ways to assist you in this venture.

    Add Spontaneity

For some of us mothers, spontaneity is not a part of our vocabulary. To do something spontaneous would take far too much time and effort. My children would not know what to think if I told them we were going sledding today. After the initial shock, they would be out the door before I could get to the coat closet. My children may never remember whom William the Conqueror was but they will remember laughing at me as I attempted to conquer the sledding hill. (By the way, sledding is a P.E. class activity.)

    Take a Day Off

Have you ever taken a day off and did nothing? Your children will be surprised when you announce there is no school for the day. Although, I assure you it will not take them long to find something fun to do. A day off will also allow you to recoup your enthusiasm.

    Initiate Fun Fridays

Add zest to your week by implementing Fun Fridays. Reserve Fridays for art, going to the library, participating in a co-op, or any other motivating activity. You children will soon look forward to ending their week with an exciting day.

    Consider a change of Scenery

Some homeschool moms tend to teach their children in one room of the house. It is nice to have a change of scenery every now and then. Since fall is a great time for nature journaling, it is enjoyable to study in the backyard. Snuggling on the couch during the wintertime leads to reading good books. The deck is always a nice place to learn in the spring. Hearing the birds sing and smelling the lilacs restore one's outlook.

You will quickly discover adding zest to your children's school days will be a welcome surprise. It will not only improve their attitudes but yours as well.
